Rapture is an analogue photographic project, realized in Patreksfjörður, Iceland, for the first MDNN Magazine issue. The theme to follow was Control, since the pictures would have been taken in Iceland, a place where nature is powerful and unpredictable. Despite the lack of control over weather, space, equipment, or light, we trusted the process and made a unique project.
Rapture explores the realm of self-control, by drawing inspiration from Freud’s Id, Ego, and Superego theories. While the Id seeks immediate satisfaction, the Super Ego enforces moral structures. The final entity, the Ego, mediates these opposing forces. Our narrative follows a girl, who lives in a remote and monotonous village, seeking escape through opium, resulting in a conflict between her Superego and Id. Our photos depict the triumph of the Id, showing the effects of eroded self-control on the psyche.
